I was born to my mother and father in the later months of 2002. My mother, Adriana was 33 when she had me. She had moved to the United States just four years earlier, to live and start a life with my father. They had gotten married a year before in the summer of 1997 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Coincidentally located near Sao Paulo, the municipality where my mother grew up. With the most extended family imaginable, Adriana spent her childhood on family farms, and with friends at the beach. In college she decided to study the English language and spent summers working at a tourist center at a local hotel. There she met my father.
The reputable Alex Bierwag grew up in Eugene, Oregon, roughly an hour away from the pacific coast. He spent his American childhood running the paper route with his sister, and looking for jellyfish on the sand. He was on vacation with his Brazilian roommate when he stopped to ask for directions and history of the town. My future parents started talking and later went out for ice cream.
My current outlook on life relates a lot to the way I was raised. We laugh a lot of in our house. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, someone is always making jokes. Although we are always poking fun at each other, we know when to be serious if we have to.
I have inherited many traits from my parents. From my father I get his humour. He always comes home from work with a joke for our family. Even if he didn't have a good day at work, he can always find a way to turn it around and laugh about it. I get his love of fun. Spontaneity. He's always searching, asking for questions, demanding answers. He takes in everything he reads and has the largest brain capacity of anyone I know.
From my mother I get my thoughts. I get my emotions and worries and discussion topics. We can look at each other and say exactly what the other person is thinking. I am able to easily talk to her on every level. I can feel vulnerable and spill everything on my mind, something I can't very easily attempt with my father.
