My Top Story of the Century
World War I Begins in Europe
World War I began in 1914 following the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Seven countries, including the United States, fought Germany and other countries. It lasted four years and was brutal.
I think this event is interesting because it broke apart parts of Europe into new countries. It was one of the deadliest conflicts in recent times.
Watergate Scandal Engulfs Nixon Administration
President Nixon authorized illegal activities such as eavesdropping and burglary, but was caught. He tried to cover it up behind presidential privilege. The lies and deception caught up with him and he resigned before impeachment could begin.
This event is interesting because it was the first time a U.S. president resigned. It showed that the president has to obey laws just like everybody else.
Scientists Clone Sheep in Great Britain
Scientists in England cloned a female sheep, Dolly, in 1996. She gained popularity because she was the first animal to be cloned using an adult cell. Dolly died in February 2003 from lung disease and severe arthritis.
I think this event is interesting because shows mankind's ability to manipulate nature. It opened the possibility to a human being cloned.
